When a rare red heat warning brought record-breaking temperatures across the country, Channel 5 News wanted to know how businesses in the building trade keep going when stopping simply isn’t an option. Our co-owner Sophie was invited to speak with reporter Simon Jones about how we manage life on the workshop floor during extreme heat.
In the interview, Sophie explains how we shift our hours to protect the team, starting as early as six in the morning and finishing by three, so we can still get steel out to builders on site in time, without asking anyone to work through the hottest part of the day.
It was great to be able to show a national audience what goes on behind the scenes at Beamline, and how a bit of flexibility keeps everyone safe and every project moving, whatever the weather.
